Eco Family Home - "Finalist"
Finalist - Custom Built Homes Category 2011 Sunshine Coast / Wide Bay HIA Housing Awards
This stunning 337 m2 open plan home comprises five bedrooms, an office, library and a subterranean wine cellar. The contemporary galley kitchen was designed to be the hub of this family home and flows through to a large living area. The brief from the owners was to be ‘eco-friendly' so it was designed with several highlight louvers to let in the morning sun and release the hot air in summer time. The building can be cut off into segments so small areas can be heated easily.
A two way fireplace connects the living area and library, with the fire hatch subtly concealed in the stone feature wall. The private rainforest setting and rolling hills of Montville are enhanced by expanses of glass and a spacious deck.
A diverse range of materials was used in the construction of this house including New Guinea rosewood chamfer boards, locally sourced stone, hardwood spotted gum, rendered blue board, Hardies Matrix cladding, Easylap with a sand finish and bamboo flooring.
This house was a pleasure to build and all involved expressed much pride and gratitude with the outcome.
