Zen House - "Award Winning Home"
Winner - Custom Built Homes Category 2010 Sunshine Coast / Wide Bay HIA Housing Awards
Finalist - Home of the Year
2010 Sunshine Coast / Wide Bay HIA Housing Awards
This stunning home is perched high above the Glass House Mountains and
overlooks the rolling green hills of Maleny. Designed to capture maximum
natural light and ventilation, this house features a contemporary palette of
glass, steel and sustainably sourced timbers.
This house merges Japanese aesthetics with Australian modernism which is reflected in the high ceilings and flowing floor plan. The centrally located kitchen opens onto a generous living area, dining room, entertaining deck as well as an attractive and functional breakfast bar with views across the Sunshine Coast and beyond.
The peaceful Zen style courtyard and garden provides a unique focal point and separates the guests' quarters and studio from the main building.
The house is constructed with a fully welded RHS frame and clad in a mixture
of spotted gum chamfer boards, 10mm FC sheeting, shadow clad and colourbond.
Embracing the front of this unique property is a gabion wall, constructed
from locally sourced stone which creates privacy and effectively buffers
local traffic noise.
