Case Study- Project 9: the HIA Award Winning 'Shack in the Bush'
Designed and constructed by Nathan Quail, this energy efficient, timber framed pole home is situated in dense bushland with a stunning outlook over Conondale. The exterior is clad in a combination of rough sawn hardwood weather boards, hardwood chamfer boards, FC sheeting and stone feature walls, which merges perfectly with the surrounding bushland.
The house features a stunning array of timber including Sydney Blue Gum floors, New Guinea Rosewood finishing’s and Ironbark decks.
The house is centred around the spacious living area, with a 30-degree pitched roof and a curved staircase rising throughout the centre and leading to a stunning parents retreat with spa ensuite.
Highlight windows give life to the raised indoor garden and louvred windows provide cross ventilation throughout the house.
The sunken lounge room features bi folding doors and a two way fireplace that leads onto the large ironbark deck, its views unhindered by the clever use of a glass balustrade.
The gourmet kitchen’s servery window opens onto the deck near the concealed barbecue making this the perfect space for entertaining.
This energy efficient house is an example of a modern home - self sufficient without compromise.
